I am always traveling around with an international drivers license, which is a yellow booklet with translation of my Norwegian drivers licence.

When renting a car in Hokkaido, Japan in 2024, the international drivers licence was not accepted by the car rental company, and they said I needed to get an IDP from the international drivers association. So I ordered it from their website, and after 5 minutes it was ready to show digitally and for them to print, so that I could pick up my rental car.

A digital version costs 59$ and a digital version + a printout version and a physical card costs 79$.

One benefit of having an IDP as well, is that it will never get lost. Simply search for it in your email folder.
